• Is rigorously monitoried and verified: We use a third party with no financial interest in the project to evaluate its effects and verify the amount of offsets generated.

• Is long-lasting: We only fund projects with permanent benefits.

• Is cost-effective: We look for the least expensive, high quality offset projects available.

To achieve greater understanding and acceptance of offsets as a policy tool, whenever possible seek these additional benefits and qualities:

• Replicability and expandability: We try to fund projects that can be repeated in other places or expanded.

• Other benefits: We look for projects that provide other environmental, economic and social benefits, in addition to reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

• Guarantees: We prefer projects that provide guaranteed offsets, so that if a project underperforms or fails, we can be sure a new project can takes its place.
